Recorders
We will soon begin using recorders in 5th grade music classes, and we will use them for the majority of the school year. Students will be responsible for bringing a recorder to their music class. Many students have told me that they already have a recorder, such as from an older sibling. If your child does not currently have a recorder, you may purchase one at just about any area music store. We will be using soprano recorders, and the Yamaha brand recorders are the most commonly used recorders at PSE. Recorders come in many colors, so your child may select whichever color they like the most. Please do not purchase a recorder from a retail department store. Although they may be a little bit cheaper, these recorders typically break easily and do not play in tune when we play together as a class. Quality recorders usually cost around five to eight dollars. You may also consider purchasing two recorders, so that your child can leave one at school and one at home to practice. This would prevent your child from forgetting to bring their recorder to school on their music day. |
